Sidewalk Skate Ministry is a ministry model initiated by Splinter Youth Inc utilizing mobile skate ramps to provide the chance to skate in neighborhoods where the opportunity and access to skate parks is limited. In serving and doing this we aim to demonstrate and reflect the love God first showed to us. God loves me. God loves you. God loves skateboarders. That’s news worth spreading.
Our goals are as follows:
- Welcome everyone.
- Provide a safe learning environment for beginners.
- Provide a high quality skate experience for all talent levels.
- Serve, support and expand the existing skate community.
- Reflect the unconditional love of God, through Jesus Christ, in our words, deeds and attitudes.
- Encourage participation, provide leadership opportunities and nurture character growth with inner city youth.
- Do all things in excellence and unity. Set a high standard and be a great example at a personal level and a collective one.
Our Philosophy:
Jesus Christ was the Son of God who voluntarily gave up his life in our place, dying on a cross to pay the price for our sins and rebellion. God is fearsome and just and the punishment for sin is death. Yet God is also merciful and a loving Father. We can be saved from his wrath by faith in the fact that Christ bore the full sins of the world on his shoulders when he went to the cross…. yet death did not have the final say: Christ rose again from the grave… and we now can stand in Hope that death has lots it sting. Everlasting life awaits those who put their trust in Jesus in the fact that he has defeated sin and death on the cross.
No amount of good deeds or religion on my part can clean me up or make me acceptable to God. There is no such thing as a ‘good’ person. You can never be ‘good’ enough to earn Gods favor or a place in his kingdom. Only Christ was perfect and his ‘work’ on the cross the only acceptable sacrifce for our sins.
When we know this, believe this and walk in this we are born again (the same as Christ rose again) as a new creation; children in Gods family, no longer rebellious outsiders, but heirs in Gods kingdom with access to his throne room and power.
Good works flow from a heart that has been saved, not one trying to earn salvation. Sidewalk Skate Ministry is something we do as an overflow and expression of our love for God and all he has done to save us from ourselves and our own rebellion. We choose to love because He first loved us, even while we were still sinners and did not deserve it. We cannot earn Gods love, it already stands, all we can do is acknowledge and accept it. When we do it transforms us to be more like Him.
